Instrument sunshade is a stainless steel protective cover used for outdoor field instruments. It helps reduce direct sunlight exposure, rainwater impact, dust accumulation and harsh weather influence on transmitters, meters and detectors. A stainless steel instrument sunshade is a practical protective accessory for outdoor field instruments. It is usually made from 304 or 316 stainless steel sheet and installed above or around the instrument to reduce direct sunlight, block rainwater impact and provide basic external protection.
In many industrial sites, instruments are installed in tank farms, outdoor pipelines, platforms, open-air equipment areas or field monitoring points. Even when the instrument itself has an IP65, IP66 or IP67 enclosure rating, long-term exposure to sunlight, rain, dust and temperature changes may still cause display reflection, housing temperature rise, nameplate aging, cable entry risks and additional maintenance problems.
Unlike a fully enclosed instrument protection box, an instrument sunshade does not completely cover the instrument. Its purpose is to provide useful sun and rain protection while keeping the instrument readable, accessible, ventilated and easy to maintain.

For outdoor instruments, rainwater may continuously wash the housing, display window, cable entry and terminal area. A sunshade can block part of the rainwater from falling directly onto the instrument body and provide basic rain protection.
In sites with dust, leaves, splashing liquid or airborne debris, the sunshade can reduce direct accumulation on the instrument housing, display screen or wiring area. This makes routine inspection and cleaning easier.
The sunshade can provide a certain level of external protection for the instrument, reducing the direct impact of minor collisions, falling debris or field operation on the instrument housing.
For complete projects, pipe racks, tank farms and outdoor platforms, using stainless steel instrument sunshades can make field instrument installation more consistent, neat and easier to manage during maintenance.

The sunshade is commonly made from 304 stainless steel or 316 stainless steel. For general outdoor applications, 304 stainless steel is usually suitable. For coastal areas, chemical plants or more corrosive environments, 316 stainless steel can be selected.
Different instruments and brands may have different shapes, sizes, display directions, cable entry positions and installation methods. Therefore, a completely standard size is not always suitable. SIY Electric can customize the sunshade according to instrument photos, model numbers, dimensional drawings or site installation pictures.
The sunshade can be fixed by screws, bolts, pipe clamps, mounting brackets or existing instrument supports. Its simple structure makes field installation and replacement convenient.
A properly designed sunshade will not block the display, cable entry, adjustment buttons, nameplate or maintenance space. For special instruments such as gas detectors and radar level meters, sensor openings, antenna areas or gas diffusion space can also be reserved.
For outdoor projects, the sunshade can be customized in batches with a unified structure or designed separately according to different instrument categories. This helps make field installation more standardized and future spare parts management easier.

The material is usually specified by the customer. For general outdoor environments, 304 stainless steel is commonly used. For corrosive environments, coastal areas or chemical plants, 316 stainless steel can be considered.
